About
Hi, my name is Les Hazlewood.
I'm a Java and open-source software enthusiast by profession who enjoys a lot of different hobbies.
A little about me:
I'm the Director of the Technology Group at Roundbox Global, a high-tech enterprise software company. My division's specialty is programming and deploying very large, high-throughput enterprise software architectures, especially those requiring integration with distributed systems and heterogenous technologies. I'm talking about heavy hitters here - our applications handle 100's to 1000's of transactions per second, asynchronous middleware messaging, tiered application distribution, clustered terabyte databases, etc. - pretty much anything you can throw at them.
What makes our applications special, vs. say the IBM or Accenture consulting groups, is that we continually pair up with our sister division, the Multimedia Group. Leif Wells and Troy Viss and their respective teams design and implement absolutely gorgeous zero-install multimedia GUIs(web 2.0/AJAX and Flash) for our enterprise back-end systems. The result is software products that handle anything thrown at them, while being a pure joy to use and just plain great to look at. Beauty and power truly intersect at this company. The only comparison I can think of is the fusion of the styling and performance qualities of a fine European supercar like a Ferrari or Lamborghini.
Anyway, enough about my job.
I also have a big passion for woodworking, a skill that was passed on to me by my grandfather. I love flying, another skill passed to me by my grandfather, although I don't have my license yet.
Dang, duty calls at the moment - I'll write more when I have more time...
Cheers,
Les
